Parties of four to nine are the audience of this site and, for airfare, mostly the wrong size for a group contract. Book the seats the normal way. Put the energy into a five- or six-room package if that is the trip. The desks below are for when the headcount actually clears ten — with two published exceptions worth reading before you skip them.

Minimums and discounts below are summaries of what each brand published, checked October 2, 2026. They are not Four or More rates. Blackout dates, room categories, and booking windows change — the official page wins.

10 seats, or 6 for sports

United Groups

Standard groups start at ten on one flight. Sports teams have a narrower door at six — same flight, United-operated, and only in a defined region.

  • Groups of ten or more on a common flight to a common destination: special pricing, a guaranteed fare, and name-change flexibility under the ticketing agreement.
  • Sports teams of six or more on the same flight, for sports-related travel on United-operated flights within the U.S., to or from Puerto Rico, and to or from Canada.
  • Sports names and ticketing are due within 24 hours of booking (not including Saturday or Sunday). One free name change per passenger until the day before departure.

Before you count on it. A family of eight is not a United group unless they are a qualifying sports team of at least six. Everyone else waits for ten seats.

10 or more

Southwest Meetings and Groups

Southwest’s group product is a ten-person program. Smaller parties are told to buy regular Wanna Get Away fares.

  • Group travel is for parties of ten or more, with discounted airfare and flexibility including a round-trip ticket earned for every 30th passenger on the itinerary.
  • Unlimited name changes up to 74 hours before departure.
  • Parties of nine or fewer are pointed back to Southwest.com for everyday fares.

Before you count on it. Do not call the group desk hoping a party of six gets a private fare. Southwest says to book those tickets the normal way.

10 on the same flight

Delta Group Travel

Delta Group Specialists price itineraries for ten or more passengers on the same flight, with a contract, a deposit, and a real penalty if the group shrinks.

  • A group is 10 or more passengers traveling together on at least one common flight segment.
  • If the group falls below 10, Delta can cancel the booking, keep the deposit, and rebook people at the published fare then available.
  • Competitive fares and flexible ticketing are part of the offer; the exact deposit and booking fee are in the contract.

Before you count on it. Holding ten seats and traveling with seven is how groups lose the deposit. The minimum is a condition, not a suggestion.

American Airlines Group & Meeting

Group and meeting rates for ten or more, including trips that start from more than one airport.

  • Available for groups of 10 or more, one or more departure airports, any cabin, to American and oneworld destinations.
  • Published benefits include a flexible ticketing schedule, one free name change per ticket, and space that can be blocked up to 11 months ahead.

Before you count on it. American does not publish a percent-off on the group page. “Special group pricing” still has to be quoted.

10 together, or 20 apart

Alaska Airlines Groups

Two different products. Traveling on the same flights is a 10-person group fare. Coming from different cities is a 20-person discount code.

  • Travel together: 10 or more on the same flights and dates. Discounted rate through the group desk, no deposits required, unlimited free name changes up to three days before departure.
  • Travel separately: 20 or more from a variety of cities. A discount code off the lowest available fares at booking, used on alaskaair.com, with a window of three days before and after the event.

Before you count on it. A wedding where guests fly themselves in from everywhere does not qualify at 12 people. That path wants 20.

10 on a nonstop

Frontier Groups

Ten or more on the same nonstop or direct itinerary, all paying the same group economy fare. Connections are out.

  • Groups from 10 passengers on Frontier nonstop or thru/direct routes. No connections.
  • The booking includes pre-assigned seats and a choice of carry-on, checked bag, or both.
  • Deposit is $40 per person when booked at least 60 days out, plus a $5 per passenger booking fee. Final payment is due 60 days before departure.

Before you count on it. Frontier says outright that a group fare is not guaranteed to be the lowest published fare, will not be repriced, and can cost more than buying seats separately. Check both.

10 to hold space — no group discount

JetBlue Group Bookings

JetBlue will book a group of ten or more. It will not discount the fare. Read that before anyone in the group chat says “call JetBlue for the group rate.”

  • Families and groups under 8: book online, up to seven people per reservation.
  • Groups of 8–9: contact JetBlue for help booking. That is assistance, not a published discount.
  • Groups of 10 or more, same flights: a groups desk, deposits ($50 per seat in the Americas, $150 transatlantic), and names due 30 days out.
  • Published policy: “JetBlue does not discount group fares or honor lower fares on group bookings.”

Before you count on it. If the headcount drops below 10 before final payment, JetBlue cancels the group reservation and rebooks at the current fare. Deposits already paid are forfeited.
